Dishoom and The Ivy are among this month's incomers.

The last month has been a bit of a bleak one for Manchester's restaurant scene. The city has said goodbye to a number of big names over the past few weeks, including Manchester House, Artisan, The Rabbit in the Moon, Hula, Walrus, Tusk, Rosylee...need we go on?

November brings with it a bit more promise though, with major players including Dishoom and The Ivy entering the fray, along with an interesting collection of local independents including a South African bar and an award-winning vegan restaurant.

Take a look at the places to tick off your list this month.

How Dishoom's Manchester restaurant will look

Dishoom's long-awaited first Manchester restaurant opens inside the Grade II listed Manchester Hall this month - and there's half price food for the first 11 days to celebrate.

The space is being transformed to evoke the old Irani cafes of Bombay, with 231 covers spread between two dining rooms and a cocktail bar, The Permit Room.

Diners can look forward to breakfast dishes including its famous bacon naan, as well as akuria, an Irani staple of spicy scrambled eggs in home-baked bread buns, and keema per eedu, a Parsi breakfast of eggs and spicy chicken keema studded with chicken liver.

Later in the day, the menu includes crunchy prawn koliwada with a sticky date and tamarind chutney; pau bhaji, a bowl of spicy vegetable mash with a hot, buttered bun; lamb chops marinated in lime juice, jaggery, ginger, garlic and spices; and buttery gunpowder potatoes crusted with fennel, coriander and cumin seeds and tossed with green chilli, coriander and spring onions; plus biryanis and a handful of ‘ruby murrays’.

Soft launch starts Sunday, November 25, officially opens Thursday, December 6
