Ali KibaSaida Karoli, RayvannyOmmy Dimpoz and Roma paid a courtesy call at the weekend to Nganza High School in Mwanza where they interacted with the pupils and shared inspirational stories by highlighting some of the hardships the musicians had encountered before becoming successful.

The visit was made possible through the Tigo Fiesta festival in partnership with the Kipepeo Community Empowerment Programme, which visits public schools to encourage pupils to pursue their dreams.

The musicians took turns to speak to the pupils of Nganza High, which is an all-girls school. “I encourage you to work hard in school because education offers an insurance for your future life,” Ali Kiba said.

The musicians are taking part in the nine-week Tigo Fiesta circuit, which goes to 15 regions in Tanzania before concluding with a concert in the capital Dar es Salaam on November 11.

Last month, the festival partnered with Tigo Tanzania, a leading telecoms and digital lifestyle company. Through the partnership the company agreed to provide digital educational content to 52 secondary schools in 12 out of the 15 regions where the festival is staging roadshows. As part of its drive, Tigo unveiled a computer lab at Pamba Secondary School at the weekend.

“We are living in a digital word and this project is equipping students to be part of the digital world,” Tigo Tanzania director for Lake Zone Ali Maswanya said.

In 2016, Tigo Tanzania and the Ministry of Communications, Works and Infrastructure announced that the company would facilitate the roll-out of Internet access points at secondary schools in Tanzania over a period of two years.
