A 10 best list? Forget about it.
The truth is, whenever I meet owners of a budding business, I am rooting for them to succeed. That's why preparing a "best of" list makes me want to tear my hair out.
When I started listing the restaurants that opened in Rochester in 2018, it exceeded 50. I narrowed the list to places I'm comfortable recommending, based on my own visits as well as word of mouth, and wound up with 20. They are listed here in alphabetical order.
But there are many others that show promise, and are well worth checking out. I've listed 20 of those as well.
Here's to all the entrepreneurs that made the Rochester area a more deliciously diverse place to eat and drink in 2018.

This comfortable but upscale oasis of cocktails, wine and shareable plates is set back off East Avenue in the East End. It has a full schedule of good stuff going on, including jazz on Wednesdays and brunch on Sunday. Come January there will be tastings on Mondays and a speakers series on Tuesdays. 7 Lawrence St.
