Tulsha Booysen has seen the light. Literally.
A couple of weeks ago, the 19-year-old, a recent Cape Town, South Africa, graduate visited the U.S. for the first time and saw the dramatic light fixture she designed that’s setting downtown Chicago aglow at the newly opened restaurant Nando’s PERi-PERi, 155 N. Michigan Ave.

“Seeing the lighting installation take shape was magical,” said Booysen.
Booysen is the youngest-ever finalist of the Nando’s “Hot Young Designer” art contest with her design of the elaborate, 21-foot light installation crafted from thousands of repurposed aluminum cans. The timing of the contest couldn’t have been more perfect, as it turns out Booysen had just completed a creative re-use project at school and “really wanted to do more.”
