During last week’s New York Fashion Week, Christian Cowan debuted his colourful Ready-to-wear Fall 2109 collection. The young designer’s collection highlighted the culture of excessive oversharing on social media.
American-Somali model, Halima Aden closed the designer’s show in a hard-to-miss crystal embellished hijab.
Halima made waves at NYFW when she closed the Christian Cowan show, in an oversized black and neon pantsuit and a chain-link crystal hijab. This fashion week was a big step for inclusive fashion, as we saw models from Arab and Muslim backgrounds dominate the runway. From the Hadid sisters, to Halima and Noor Tagouri walking in their hijab, to half-Saudi model Shanina Shaik – we saw the region represent.

Christian’s show was well received, but he took to Instagram to talk about one specific look, and it was Halima’s. The designer posted a picture of the 21-year-old model on his account, which he captioned, “Creating the crystal link Hijab for @halima as the closing look of the show was such a special moment for me. The amount of messages I’ve received from Hijabi women has been so touching.”
