(Above). Lee Sauer still worries about the environment.
Thirty years ago, as a writer for KPC newspapers, Sauer created a cartoon strip to spread the message about a new concept — recycling. His cartoon superhero, known as Recyclone, could sort trash from recycling with whirlwind speed.
Obviously, recycling caught on with the public, but Sauer still frets about the state of our planet.
“I wanted to get the word out somehow,” he said. He could not do everything, he said, “but I do know how to write a book.”
Sauer, in fact has written at least a half-dozen nonfiction books and children’s books. He penned biographies of northeast Indiana business leaders Glenn Rieke and Wayne Morrill, an activity book for the Indiana Bicentennial and a series of art instruction books with the theme “Drawing from History.”
Writing fiction would pose a new literary challenge for Sauer. For the comfort of familiarity, he chose Recyclone’s sidekick, Moonbeam, as the main character for his newly published book.
